Presenting results of campaigns to prevent violence against women and girls

More than 2.5 million people reached and more than one million interactions on social media. These are some of the effects of the different campaigns for the prevention of violence against women and girls promoted in Central America and the Dominican Republic since the beginning of the COVID pandemic.

#UnlearningBeingMachistas in Honduras; Nothing justifies violence against women in Guatemala; 16 days of activism in Belize and other countries, and the newly launched Those no longer here in Costa Rica are some of the campaigns that UNDP InfoSegura, with the support of USAID, has promoted throughout the region to inform and raise awareness in citizens and key stakeholders regarding multiple expressions of violence against women and girls.

Some of the actions carried out to enhance understanding and raise awareness about violence against women since 2020 include television and radio spots, social media campaigns, webinars, short films and call-centres for victims of gender-based violence.

Campaigns were carried out in partnership with over 20 institutions, such as ministries and directorates of citizen security and violence prevention, women's affairs, health and justice in the different countries. Statistical offices, municipalities, universities, think tanks and non-governmental organizations have also collaborated. In addition to the dissemination on social media, conventional media have also been used, including spots broadcasted on 30 radio stations, as well as through 30 influencers, reaching more than 500 thousand hits with their publications.
