En este documento bilingüe se muestra un breve recuento sobre la situación de la violencia homicida durante el primer semestre de 2021 en Guatemala. Dentro de los hallazgos de este análisis destacan el incremento de 14% en el total de homicidios respecto al mismo periodo del año 2020. Estas cifras son similares a las registradas antes de las medidas de contención y prevención impuestas por la COVID-19 (enero-marzo 2020). Además, resalta el incremento en la tasa de homicidios de mujeres (+25%), el cual fue de del doble comparado con el de los hombres (+12%) para el mismo periodo de 2020. Asimismo, se identifican a las personas jóvenes (18-29 años) como las principales víctimas de homicidio entre enero y junio 2021.

Los insumos para este análisis son datos a junio 2021 producidos por las instancias nacionales responsables de la gestión de información sobre seguridad ciudadana en el país: 2020-2021,2010-2020 Instituto Nacional de Estadística (INE) con datos de Policía Nacional Civil -2021 Policía Nacional Civil de Guatemala (PNC,)-Sección de Estadísticas, en proceso de validación por el INE. This bilingual document shows a brief account of the situation of homicidal violence during the first semester of 2021 in Guatemala. The findings of this analysis include the 14% increase in total homicides compared to the same period in 2020. These figures are similar to those registered before the containment and prevention measures imposed by COVID-19 (January- March 2020). In addition, the increase in the homicide rate of women (+ 25%) stands out, which was double compared to that of men (+ 12%) for the same period of 2020. Likewise, young people are identified (18-29 years) as the main homicide victims between January and June 2021.

The inputs for this analysis are data as of June 2021 produced by the national authorities responsible for managing information on citizen security in the country: 2020-2021, 2010-2020 National Institute of Statistics (INE) with data from the National Civil Police -2021 National Civil Police of Guatemala (PNC,) – Statistics Section, in the process of validation by the INE.
