A thousand trained in citizen security and justice through online platform: TrainAction

Five months, six different courses and one thousand registered students, both men and women. The online Academy that the UNDP InfoSegura Regional Project has implemented in partnership with USAID offers different courses for decision makers, technical teams, public employees, members of academia, researchers and people from civil society organizations in the countries of Central America and the Dominican Republic, where project is being implemented since 2014.

In five months, 564 men and 436 women have participated in courses on Citizen Security, Justice and Social Cohesion, Impact Assessment of citizen security policies, Introductory Course on Cybersecurity and Information Management for Citizen Security, with a gender approach and an intersectional approach, as well as courses specifically geared for information analysis for citizen security.

During these five months, participants have included ministers, vice ministers, area directors, law enforcement senior staff, as well as men and women leaders from social organizations, all of whom engaged in the training processes, encouraging their work teams.

Course methodologies combine texts with activities, explanatory videos by experts for easy understanding of each of the subjects, up-to-date suplementary readings and other audiovisual resources. Different courses are supplemented with forum activities and discussions among participants enabling there to be exchanges, sharing and interactions among participants from Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and the Dominican Republic.

Throughout this year, TrainAction is set to develop new modules and courses on a variety of issues linked to youth, security and peacebuilding; violence prevention by police force and tools for territorial analysis of criminal phenomena, among others.

The InfoSegura Regional Project considers that building technical capacities in those who are involved in citizen security in our countries is a priority and a permanent challenge.
