The Secretariat for Security – Sub Secretariat of Police Affairs, with support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the UNDP InfoSegura Regional Project, held a training session with the Public Ministry, The Online Police Statistical System (SEPOL), the Police Anti-Gang and Against Organized Crime Directorate (DIPAMPCO) and the Technical Inter-Institutional Coordination Unit (UTECI), where technical staff learned to input information and use the Open Data Portal for Citizen Security and Coexistence.

In addition, Open Data Portal tools were used in different practical exercises during the session. Use was also made of the advanced analyser, which enables the user to consolidate, analyse and systematize gender-sensitive information on peaceful coexistence and citizen security, cross referencing variables as needed.

A public-access database of over 600,000 records on crimes against life, integrity and property and factors associated with insecurity have been consolidated on the Open Data Portal, through inter-institutional coordination of at least seven institutions, as follows: Secretariat for Security (SEDS), DIPAMPCO, MP, National Registry of Persons (RNP), National Statistics Institute (INE), Secretariat for Education, as well as the oversight office of the Violence Observatory – IUDPAS/National Autonomous University of Honduras.

This Portal offers an opportunity to influence and have an impact on citizen security and coexistence policies with strategic value insofar as it brings closer, integrates and enhances data management processes with quality.

These efforts aim to enhance evidence generation processes for managing citizen security by strengthening the SEDS through coordination, institutional linkage, interoperability and the application of digital solutions that facilitate access and promote transparency for citizens.

The workshop was held at the Hotel Plaza San Martin, and was attended by the Deputy Minister of Security, Julissa Villanueva and the UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Honduras Rose Diegues.
